Behind the Sound: How NSFY Makes Music

NSFY doesn’t follow a rulebook when it comes to songwriting — and that’s exactly the point. Both Dom and Lara bring their own unique approaches to the creative process, and it’s the collision of those two mindsets that gives the band its unpredictable, chaotic, and powerful sound.

For Dom, ideas usually strike late at night — the kind of 2 a.m. inspiration that starts with a single guitar riff stuck on repeat in his head. He’ll quickly record it to avoid forgetting, then layer it with drums, synths, vocals, and bass. Sometimes it begins with a vocal melody, sometimes with a chord progression on keys, or just a gritty riff that refuses to leave his brain. From there, he builds a full demo, listens obsessively, and adjusts until the song takes shape.

Dom’s lyrics are often rooted in surreal and otherworldly themes — aliens, the apocalypse, intrusive thoughts, questioning reality itself. Once the song feels textured and memorable — something with a riff or melody that sticks — he moves on to mixing and mastering. His process is methodical but spontaneous, driven by instinct and obsession.

Lara, on the other hand, takes a looser, more vibe-driven approach. For her, ideas often come from messing around, joking with the band, or just playing for fun. The process isn’t structured, and that’s exactly what makes it work. “We just go off vibes,” she says — and that energy translates into music that feels raw, real, and unfiltered.

She sees Dom as the producer who handles the technical side, but when it comes to writing, everyone plays off each other in a spontaneous, chaotic way. There are no strict roles — just instinct and energy. A song is “done” when it feels done — when it’s long enough, and Dom’s finished mixing it.

Their processes may be different — one rooted in meticulous layering, the other in spontaneous jamming — but that’s what makes NSFY’s music feel alive. It's not polished to perfection, and it’s not meant to be. It’s emotional. Explosive. Sometimes weird. Always honest.

There’s no clean, step-by-step formula behind NSFY’s sound — and that’s the point. Whether it’s a late-night riff session or a chaotic jam that turns into a track, every song is the result of contrast, chemistry, and creative tension. The process is messy, unpredictable, and completely theirs. And somehow, it just works.
